One Good Watch

A very good watch tells the time, certainly. Its real job is to be clocked by another very good watch across a table and to say, silently, ah, you too. No words needed. This is a language older than money and considerably more discreet.
The rest of the kit follows the same rule: buy once, keep it forever, let it wear in rather than out. A worn leather strap and a faint scratch are not flaws — they are the story. The poshest gear in the room is nearly always the oldest.
